History

Harbour Insurance Agency began in 1963 when Robert Drew grew weary of the endless hustle of the life insurance game and decided to go into the property and casualty insurance business.  It started with one home and one auto policy - those of owner and operators Bob Drew.  This small operation was known as the Dorothy Burr Insurance Agency, named for his mother and co-founder of the fledgling enterprise. The first office operated out of Dot's breezeway in her home on Kane Drive in Scituate. A family business was born.

In 1977 the pair had the opportunity to purchase the Harbour Insurance Agency. This acquisition resulted in the new agency moniker and a new address in Scituate Harbor. Several more agency acquisitions would follow over the years.

In 1978, the year of the infamous blizzard, the agency brought in Bob's middle son, Stephen Drew, to help with agency operations. The property damage caused by the February storm nearly put the agency out of business. Tough times weathered (no pun intended).

In 1985 the agency was incorporated, and in 1991 Bob's oldest son, Robert Drew, Jr. came on board. In 1993 Harbour Insurance acquired the Norris Insurance Agency in Carver where it established a second location. This branch office continues to be manned by Bob's youngest son, Douglas Drew.

In the year 2000 Dot Burr passed away and Bob Drew began to consider retirement. The agency was continuing to grow and prosper under the leadership of the next generation. Around this time, the agency left the harbor area, purchasing a building of its own at 301A Driftway. 2014 brought the purchase of 1 Carver Square Blvd., the new home of the branch office in Carver.

Harbour Insurance remains a two-location office with a staff of 13, including a third generation having joined the business. Stephen's three sons, Garrett, Cameron, and Mitchell, are in the Scituate office and Douglas' son, Joshua, is at the branch in Carver.
